Modules

FTDI supply a range of modules supporting conversion from USB to a range of commonly used serial interfaces such as RS232, RS422, and RS485. Modules are based on the FTDI USB to serial converter ICs and support multiple channels.

USB-DUO

The USB-DUO brings together the FT231XS and FT3243S in a single kit for developing USB to RS232 solutions. The FT231XS is the USB to full handshake UART device from FTDI’s X-series of devices offering low power and low pin count in a 20 pin SSOP package. The UART IO from the FT231XS device is translated to RS232 signal levels via the FT3243S, RS232 transceiver, provided in a 28 pin SSOP package. The devices may be used with the default FTDI drivers for creating USB to RS232 solutions on all major operating systems such as Windows, Linux, MAC, Android.

DB9-USB Modules
The DB9-USB range of modules provide a simple and fast method of migrating existing DB9 based connector UART interfaces to USB 2.0. In some cases this can be done without the need to redesign the PCB. In some cases they can reduce system costs by removing an RS232 level shifter from a design. The modules feature a USB2.0 mini-B connector within a module which fits a standard 9-pin DB9 connector footprint. Ideal for legacy applications which feature UART DB9 based connectors, these modules provide a method of extending the life-cycle of these products by converting them to USB2.0 connectivity, with minimal redesign. The DB9-USB family consist of 6 modules. Two of these operate at RS232 voltage levels – these can be used as a direct replacement, with no PCB changes, in a system which uses RS232 levels, while four of them operate at digital voltage levels (a choice of 5V or 3.3V) – these can be used to interface to an application systems logic level which could result in the bill-of-materials being reduced by the removal of any RS232 level shifters which may be present in the system. Each is available to replace either a male or a female DB9.

USB-COM232-PLUS1

 

The USB-COM232-PLUS1 module is a single channel USB to RS232 converter module. The module is designed to support USB communication with RS232 equipment. The USB-COM232-PLUS1 is based on the FTDI FT232R IC. The module features integrated electronics supporting full conversion from USB to RS232 signal levels with onboard level shifters. The module also features LEDs for power, TXD, RXD status indication.

USB-COM232-PLUS2

The USB-COM232-PLUS2 module is a USB to dual channel RS232 communications module. The module is based on the FTDI FT2232H (USB 2.0 Hi-Speed device) and includes level shifters to support full RS232 level signaling. Power/TXD/RXD LEDs to provide a visual indication of data traffic through the module.

USB TTL Serial

The USB TTL Serial cables are a range of USB to serial converter cables which provide connectivity between USB and serial UART interfaces. A range of cables are available offering connectivity at 5V, 3.3V or user specified signal levels with various connector interfaces.
All cables feature an FTDI FT232R device integrated within the cable USB type ‘A’ connector, which provide access to UART Transmit (Tx), Receive (Rx), RTS#, CTS#, VCC (5V) and GND connections. All cables are fully RoHS compliant and are FCC/CE approved.
